Located in the most northwestern part of Tenerife, it is a mountainous area with lush vegetation, rugged coastline and picturesque villages. Its landscape is one of the most unspoilt in Tenerife. 80% of the municipality is a nature reserve, such as the Teno Rural Park, with 8,063 hectares of stunning rural and marine landscapes. The climate is ideal for outdoor activities. In summer, temperatures reach 20-25°C (rarely over 30°C), and in winter between 17 and 20°C. In contrast to the high summer temperatures of the Mediterranean, the weather here is mild thanks to the refreshing Atlantic breeze.
Buenavista del Norte is a beautiful and peaceful village where it is easy to get in touch with the locals and their traditions. Despite being a small village, you will find everything you need for your holiday: cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacy and petrol station. Charming streets and historic buildings invite you to stroll. The market square is a social meeting place for both locals and visitors. It hosts weekly farmers’ markets, musical performances and events of all kinds.

From Buenavista del Norte you can reach Masca in 30 minutes by car or bus (lines 355 and 365). If you are fit enough, you can also get there by bike or on foot.
Situated in the northwest of Tenerife, this is one of the most impressive and unspoilt landscapes on the island, with the best views of La Gomera, La Palma and the cliffs of Los Gigantes. Bring your swimsuit or snorkelling gear! As this is the place with the longest hours of daylight, you will enjoy unforgettable sunsets.
Access by private car is restricted. The public bus line 369 runs every hour between Buenavista del Norte and Punta de Teno.

Visit one of the beautiful coves and inlets that dot the north coast. Volcanic eruptions have carved unusual shapes and created beautiful seawater pools with crystal clear water, ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
Beautiful small beach located near Tabaiba Guesthouse. Its special microclimate means that this small cove only has black sand from June to November, and in winter it becomes a pebble beach. Popular with surfers for its nice big waves. Suitable for swimmers, but be aware of the currents.

A wild rocky beach popular with locals, this is the closest cove to Tabaiba Guesthouse. Some of our guests have jogged there in the morning to enjoy a wake-up swim in the crystal clear waters. Only recommended when the sea is very calm. The unguarded bay is about 1km from us.
The most famous sea pools in Tenerife, a series of lava pools and sea channels where swimming is a unique experience. There’s a pool for everyone, from shallow to deep, as well as a solarium, changing rooms and a wide range of food and drink options.

One of the most peaceful beaches in northern Tenerife, shaped like a shell and sheltered from the strong waves that typically hit most beaches in the north. It has black volcanic sand and all the facilities you need for a relaxing day at the beach, including showers, sun loungers for hire and restaurants with terraces overlooking the sea.
Bus number 362 runs hourly from the main bus station in Icod de los Vinos to the beach (10 minutes).
This wide volcanic sand beach is the most famous for surfers in the north of Tenerife. It has a restaurant and a surf school with board hire. Be aware of the currents at all times of the year.
The beach can be reached by car from the main north road (C-820), where a signposted turn-off leads to the coast. Bus number 363 takes you from Buenavista del Norte to El Socorro in 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Once the wealthiest town in Tenerife, Garachico was covered in lava by an eruption in 1706. Walking through its cobbled streets and squares is the best way to discover this historic town. Garachico has many nice restaurants and terraces and from time to time there are colourful music or theatre festivals.
Bus number 363 runs every 30 minutes between Buenavista del Norte and Garachico (9km). A beautiful coastal path leads to the village, as does a cycle path through tropical banana plantations.

An isolated hamlet in the Teno Rural Park, a relic of the customs and traditions of the past. Its traditional houses, small square and chapel are part of a vast landscape of farm terraces and fields with goat herds. Famous for its rural character, its gastronomy and its popular festivals. Taste its exquisite cheeses and goat’s meats with a wine from the El Palmar valley!

Here stands the millennial dragon tree (Dracaena draco), declared a National Monument in 1917 and thought to be 800 years old. From here you have one of the best views of the Teide, Spain’s highest peak. The historic-artistic heritage of the old town and a varied commercial offer make this municipality well worth a visit.
Bus number 363 runs every 30 minutes directly from Buenavista del Norte (16km).
Situated in the middle of the valley of the same name, the town stands out for its perfectly preserved buildings, which has led to the town centre being declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Its streets are lined with buildings of great beauty, the typical carved wooden balconies adorning the façades of its traditional houses. There are many terraces where you can enjoy tapas and local wines. Visit one of the 10 water mills from the 16th century, where the famous Canarian gofio (roasted grain flour) was made. Two are still in use today.
La Orotava is 39 km from Buenavista del Norte and can be reached in one hour by bus from Icod de los Vinos.
Take a guided tour of the world’s largest lava tubes (18km). A vast labyrinthine network of underground passages, many of which are still unexplored.
The tour is of medium difficulty and lasts 2 hours. You will spend about 45 minutes inside the cave, exploring about 250 metres of tubes.

The former capital of the island is a perfectly preserved historic city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, where palaces, old mansions and characterful buildings sit cheek by jowl with tapas bars, antique shops and bookshops. It is said that the Spanish practised and perfected their colonial architectural styles here before taking them to the New World, and it is certainly reminiscent of places in South America. Stroll around and eat some delicious churros with hot chocolate!
La Laguna is 65 km from Buenavista del Norte and can be reached by bus from Icod de los Vinos (1 hour 45 minutes).
Eat where the locals eat! Guachinche is a simple restaurant located in the former garage of a typical Canarian winery in the north of Tenerife. They offer traditional homemade food at an affordable price, accompanied by their own or local wine. We suggest you visit some in the Orotava Valley, El Sauzal, La Matanza de Acentejo, La Victoria or Santa Úrsula.
