Make your holiday unforgettable with a range of activities

Kayak

Enjoy the company of dolphins on a spectacular kayak trip in small groups. You will see impressive landscapes of cliffs, caves and natural coves.

You can hire your own kayak or take part in an organised activity combined with swimming, snorkelling or dolphin and whale watching. The most popular places for kayaking in the north are from Punta de Teno to Masca beach, along the impressive cliffs of Los Gigantes, the coast of Garachico or Playa San Marcos in Icod de los Vinos.

Surf and Bodyboard

The north of Tenerife receives ground swells similar to those in Hawaii, the Caribbean and South Africa, giving surfers big and beautiful waves, especially in winter. In general, the north coast is more suitable for experienced surfers. Various surf shops and schools can provide you with the board you need.

The best waves nearby are La Caleta de Interán, El Socorro in Los Realejos and Martiánez in Puerto de la Cruz. Las Arenas beach in Buenavista del Norte is popular with local surfers during the summer months.

Guided Hikes

Tabaiba Guesthouse is designed for being active and hiking in the beautiful nature of Tenerife. Your host, Sergio, is an experienced hiking professional and happy to accompany you. He will show you his favourite spots and provide valuable information about the mountains.

Tenerife also offers more relaxed activities

Enjoy an organised 1.5 hour boat trip from Punta de Teno to Masca beach. A local company offers this service several times a day.

Discover the northwest coast of Tenerife in a different way and be impressed by the breathtaking views of the sea cliffs of Los Gigantes (650 m). The trip includes a stop for swimming and snorkelling in the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic and, if you are lucky, you may see dolphins accompanying your boat.

Snorkel

Snorkel with sea turtles on the surface of the Atlantic Ocean, discover lava spikes or be amazed by tropical fish – snorkelling is a great way to discover the fascinating underwater world without needing a licence.

In Buenavista del Norte there are companies that offer daily boat trips from Punta de Teno to Masca Beach. The bay of Punta de Teno is very popular with snorkellers as you can swim with barracudas, garfish and parrotfish.

Stand Up Paddle (SUP)

Get on your board, grab your paddle and let the journey begin! Stand Up Paddle is the new trendy sport for everyone. Any time of the year is perfect for this different way of exploring Tenerife’s coastline, for example from Punta de Teno along the impressive cliffs of Los Gigantes.

A local agency hires out SUP boards.

Whale Watching

Observe these fascinating marine mammals on an exciting boat trip. In 2021, the west coast of Tenerife will become the first Whale Heritage Area in Europe. Agencies in Los Gigantes (including Responsible Whale Watching) offer daily visits to one of the largest known populations of pilot whales and dolphins that live between Tenerife and La Gomera.

Stargazing

Along with Chile and Hawaii, the Canary Islands are one of the best places in the world for stargazing. Learn about the history of astronomy and discover the starry sky on an organised star tour in the Teide National Park.
